Some professors and researchers have argued that a compromise between harnessing tech innovation and minimizing harms is key in classrooms. Dan Schwartz, dean of the Stanford Graduate School of Education, wrote in a 2024 report: “Technology … offers the prospect of universal access to high-quality learning experiences, and it creates fundamentally new ways of teaching. But … a big fear with AI in particular is that we just get more efficient at teaching badly.”

Research led by Professor Rebecca Silverman found that the effectiveness of edtech in improving literacy skills varied, indicating that schools districts should carefully evaluate any program before deciding to adopt it.
