Many young people struggle to connect climate issues to their own lives, seeing them as a distant threat affecting faraway places and times. One Degree Impact closes that distance through interactive simulators, beginning with local extreme heat, so students see how climate change affects them right now. The simulators then move students from personal connection, to the science behind the crisis, to the actions available to them at the individual, community, and systemic level. By pairing interactive learning with a clear pathway to action, students come to see climate change as both a present threat and a problem they can address.
