In this talk, Dr. Carter Andrews will describe the concept of damage-centered teaching and its role in countering projects of humanization in teacher education. She draws upon existing research to propose core tenets of a humanizing pedagogy for teacher education – rooted in radical love and critical consciousness – and underscores how projects of humanization are necessary in teacher education and educational research to meet the needs of our most marginalized youth and communities.

Dorinda Carter Andrews is the associate dean for equity and inclusion for the College of Education at Michigan State University, as well as associate professor of race, culture and equity in the Department of Teacher Education.
