This Stanford Professional Learning Extension (PLEX) experience is designed for elementary classroom teachers who provide designated English language development (ELD) support to English Language Learners. Participants will explore a research-based framework for designing designated ELD instruction that addresses the language demands students encounter in everyday school life, with practical strategies that can be applied directly in the classroom. Participants can earn 1 Continuing Education Unit (CEU) with their full participation.
Target Audience: K-5 or K-6 classroom teachers, or EL specialists, who are charged with teaching English to students who speak a language other than English (LOTE)
Note: Materials will draw from California terminology and state-specific frameworks, but practices may be applied to any English-speaking classroom, including internationally
This is a weekly course, meeting on Thursday from August 27 to October 8 for 7 sessions total.
