2022 Career Outcomes

Stanford GSE graduates are highly sought after for positions in a wide range of industries and education settings in the U.S. and around the world. Our graduates go on to be leaders in schools, government, industry, education non-profits and philanthropies, ed tech, and more.

Each year, Stanford EdCareers surveys graduating students and publishes a profile of the class and their career plans.

Class of 2022

The class of 2022* included a total of 156 graduate students – 23 doctoral and 133 master’s students. We know the employment status** of 94% percent of these graduates.

In addition, 31 Stanford undergraduates completed an education minor or honors.

Doctoral graduates

We know the employment status of 87 percent of the 23 PhD graduates who completed their degrees in 2021-22. Of those:

  • 100 percent were employed or had started new organizations
  • 35 percent worked in academia (tenure, non-tenure, and postdoctoral positions)
  • 88 percent of PhD respondents indicated a salary range of $75,000 and above (self-reported, global range)

Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP) graduates

We know the employment status of 97 percent of STEP graduates. Of those:

  • 98 percent were employed
    • 100 percent of those employed were working in the field of education
    • 100 percent of those employed worked primarily as classroom teachers
  • 87 percent of respondents indicated a salary range of $50,000 and above (self-reported, global range)

Master’s graduates (non-STEP)

We know the employment status of 95 percent of the 77 MA/MS (non-STEP) graduates who completed their degrees in 2021-22. Of those:

  • 78 percent were employed or had started new organizations
  • 7 percent were pursuing further education
  • 78 percent of respondents indicated a salary range of $75,000 and above (self-reported, global range)

Undergraduate minor and honors

We know the employment status of 71 percent of Undergraduate Education Minor and Honors graduates. Of those:

  • 46 percent were employed or had started new organizations
  • 50 percent were pursuing further education
  • 66 percent of respondents indicated a salary range of $50,000 and above (self-reported, global range)
