Dear GSE Alumni,

It’s official! The GSE is moving into our new home, and the Stanford University campus is abuzz with activity. New Student Orientation, where we welcome our freshly minted graduate students to the GSE community, starts today. To add to the excitement, faculty and staff are setting up their offices to be ready to meet with students this fall.

While the new education buildings take center stage, the International Comparative Education (ICE) program has had a renovation of its own, officially changing its name to Global and Comparative Education (GCE). To celebrate, there will be a GCE Faculty & Alumni Showcase on the eve of the Comparative & International Education Society (CIES) conference on March 27. We hope to see you there!

If you haven’t been to campus lately, there is no better time than GSE’s Reunion Homecoming Weekend to tour the Angela Nomellini & Ken Olivier Building (ANKO) and Patricia & Jeffrey Raikes Building and connect with GSE alumni. We have something for everyone: relax and meet other alumni and students at the Alumni Welcome Mixer; make your own tote bag with the GSE Makery during the Homecoming Hangout; eat, chill, and vibe at the GSE Tailgate and collect this year’s special swag item; experience our new space steeped in enriching conversations and professional learning with our featured Classes Without Quizzes during the STEP Conference; tour the GSE’s new home; and, of course, celebrate our love for education and this year’s Alumni Excellence in Education Award honorees.

We understand that it’s not always feasible to make it to campus, so we’re providing a few virtual pre-reunion events to bring people together. The series, AI Workshop, Perspectives, Practice & Play, offers three unique sessions with GSE faculty and alumni, and an interactive AI workshop. Harvard, Stanford, and Teachers College have once again teamed up for Navigating the Changing Education Landscape, with six facilitated breakout rooms for engaging discussions. Also, alums from POLS (and its predecessor, APA) are invited to join professor and POLS program director Ann Jaquith for a conversation about Who Is Government? The Untold Story of Public Service, Michael Lewis’s new book.

As always, if you are interested in getting more involved with the GSE, drop me a line—you never know where it’ll take us.

Warm wishes,

Marly
