Dear GSE Alumni,

This month, while time may have fallen backwards, the GSE is forging ahead! At the Building Dedication Ceremony, Dean Schwartz reflected on how the new space “reflects the GSE”—balancing the school’s history and its forward-looking vision, preserving the character of the original building while transforming its formerly tucked-away basement into a place defined by openness and light. The contrast becomes evident the moment you behold the curtain of windows that grace the entryways of both ANKO and Raikes, the GSE’s new home.

The dedication ceremony marked the second event held in the atrium space known as The Forum, following the Alumni Excellence in Education Award (AEEA) Ceremony last month. As one of our alumni board members noted, these significant events took place around Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, celebrating the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. While this sentiment has long been woven into the mission of the GSE and the values of our community, it now finds a physical manifestation in the form of GSE’s new home at the heart of campus.

I like to envision our alumni as bright lights scattered throughout the world, shining their goodness and brilliance into hard-to-reach, challenging, and obscure places. Behind the Forum lies the Kissick Family Alumni Gallery, a space dedicated to our alumni. On its wall is a geographic map of our alumni, clusters of cardinal dots coming together to form one expansive, vibrant community of GSE graduates. I hope you will one day see it for yourself, for it is both hopeful and enlightening.

Warm wishes,
Marly
