Dear GSE Alumni,

As another academic year comes to a close, we welcome the newest class of graduates into our vibrant and diverse alumni community. Welcome to the GSE alumnihood, Class of 2025! You are now officially part of the extraordinary network of educators, leaders, and changemakers making a difference in education at home and around the world.

On the topic of community, I've had the pleasure of meeting many of you at some of our recent in-person events; from the Career Connections dinner on campus to the Open Minds tour kick-off event in San Francisco at the Tonga Room earlier this month, and to those I met in the mountain city of Denver, it's been fantastic making connections and learning about the people that have made the GSE what it is today.

Looking ahead, the Open Minds tour will continue through the coming months, with stops in New York for our East Coast friends and in Los Angeles for our Southern California neighbors. Be sure to check out the save the dates below if you are in and around those cities!

Finally, while the Connector publication has historically paused over the summer months, this year we are pushing ahead! July and August editions will be dedicated to showcasing stories of GSE alumni spanning multiple generations, from across the globe, and representing a wide range of career pathways. If you are interested in being featured or have a story suggestion for a future Connector, please get in touch.

This month’s alumni spotlight is the guest and co-host of the 2025 Cubberley Lecture + School’s In LIVE event.

Sam Wineburg, PhD '89, is the Margaret Jacks Professor of Education and, by courtesy, of History & American Studies, Emeritus, at Stanford University. Educated at Brown and Berkeley, he holds a doctorate in Psychological Studies in Education from Stanford and an honorary doctorate from Sweden's Umeå University. In 2002, Wineburg founded the Stanford History Education Group (inquirygroup.org), whose curriculum and assessments have been downloaded over 16 million times, making it one of the largest providers of free curriculum in the world.  Read More

May’s Connector posed the following Game Changer:

Q: Beyond the Farm: Can you name three cities outside the Bay Area where the GSE has appeared (or will!) this year?

A: So far, the GSE has hosted receptions in Austin, Chicago, Denver, and San Diego, with plans forthcoming for New York and Los Angeles; but the list of cities we visit is always evolving. Wish we were coming to a city near you? Let us know!

Congratulations to May’s Game Changer winner! Keep reading to find June’s Game Changer and your next shot at GSE swag.
