Dear GSE Alumni,

It is hard to believe that it’s back-to-school season again! We wish you the best with the transition, whether you’re a parent, teacher, or commuter waiting in the line of school buses. The GSE has started its own transition to the new buildings, and we anticipate completing the move in September.

As you may have seen, our invitation went out for the GSE’s Reunion Homecoming events, and we are busy prepping campus for your arrival. Our signature event, the Alumni Excellence in Education Award, will make its debut on the GSE's new home, and we look forward to highlighting the spaces throughout the weekend.

Before we convene in the new building, September brings exciting opportunities of its own! If you are in New York City, the GSE Open Minds Cocktail Reception features special guests Dean Daniel Schwartz and Ira Lit, the GSE’s faculty director of the Stanford Teacher Education Program. If you’re in the Bay Area, we are hosting an alumni social event at Drake’s Dealership in Oakland on September 25. We have also teamed up with Harvard and Teacher's College, Columbia University to host Navigating the Changing Education Landscape, a Zoom networking event for all to take part in.

This issue of the Alumni Connector spotlights the Alumni Excellence in Education Award honorees: Tina Cheuk, MA ’07, PhD ’19; Laura Evans, MA ’97; and Heather Kirkpatrick, PhD ’00. We hope you will join us this October during Reunion Homecoming to celebrate these stellar alumni and the impact they’ve had on our community and the field of education.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Connector survey. The universal consensus is more alumni connection. As one alumnus said, “We need community now more than ever.” Be sure to check out the GSE Instagram for pics from the Bay FC and Valkyries games this past weekend. We will continue to come together to share ideas, experiences, and genuine connection. I hope to see you soon!

Warm wishes,
Marly
